After watching it, we think the title represents quite well what the movie shows us, and it is that before a devastating war, the characters involved seem at times precisely shielded from all feelings.
History places us in the year 1945 towards the end of World War II, in full invasion allied to German territory. The protagonists, a group of soldiers aboard a Sherman tank nicknamed Fury. Led by Don "Wardaddy" Collier (Brad Pitt), the crew consists of "Bible" Swan (Shia LaBeouf), Mexican "Gordo" Garcia (Michael Peña) and Grady Travis (Jon Bernthal), in addition to a fifth element that recently fell in the last battle.
This is why they are in need of recruiting a new partner, rookie Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman) whose main talent is typing and not firing firearms. His induction is forced marches, there is no training time in his new activities and he is even forced to sacrifice a prisoner of war, it is here that we see for the first time the cold and dominant personality of Don Collier, who lives under a simple rule: kill or die.
Sent to several combat missions advancing through the fields of Germany, we see the interaction within the team, with the different personalities that although collide at times, in the end, they make it clear that they are capable of doing anything to protect the one they have on their side.
In general, the action scenes work quite well, they are full of adrenaline and tension. In particular, the battle between three American tanks against a superior German tank is quite well accomplished and is possibly the most exciting of all. But in addition to the action scenes, we have some moments of calm, but not with less tension. The sequence where we see Don and Norman interact with a couple of German women in a captured town is perhaps the key moment in the film, where the personalities of the five members of the squad really bloom for good and for bad.
The performances are top-notch, Brad Pitt returns to show an excellent range. In the beginning, he looks like a real scumbag, really damaged by war, but little by little we see that he is a much more complicated character. On several occasions we see him leaving his team to be able to vent. The transformation we see in Logan Lerman is also interesting, going from being a shy boy who has just arrived at the army who does not dare to fire a weapon and later become a Nazi killing machine. Come on, even the unbearable Shia LaBeouf who had never seen a decent performance does a fairly acceptable job as a character also with conflicts between his faith and his work.
It should be noted that this tape is violent, quite violent. This is clear from the first scene, where with just a few seconds of the film, we see Brad Pitt repeatedly stab the face of a German soldier. It is to be expected in a film of this theme, but it is not enough to mention it. If you have a weak stomach, you are warned.
If we have to criticize something of the film, it is that towards the end it falls into several clichés and becomes predictable, in addition to the fact that the culminating battle seemed implausible, but even so, it is not enough to detract from everything that precedes it. Overall, it seemed like a great movie that we highly recommend.
